I'm playing at one last blog party this season. Today is the I Made This! Hallowe'en Craft blog party at The Domestic Pagan. Thank you to Serenity Raven for hosting. I'm also doing this as a Spooky Mondays post for Wendy at Wendy's Adventures in Wonderland!

 

 

I thought I would share something old and something new. I already showed you the spooky fence cutouts on my last post. Since I found a few more missing pieces I wanted to post newer pictures here.

 

 

I had more birds, bats, cats and the bottom grass borders tucked away.

 

 

I made these about 6 or 7 years ago. You might recognize the crows and bats from Martha Stewart's Halloween line. Before she started selling them as ready to use cutouts she had the patterns in one of the October issues of her magazine. So I made lots of bats, crows, owls and cats from foam. Then I thought it would be fun to put them on a fence. I used to always put these up outside around my front door but this year I decided to put them on my wall so I can look at them all the time!

 

 

The creepy ghoul above the fence is this guy. He was a last minute project my son and I threw together this weekend after checking the stores for clearance stuff.

 

 

We picked up a couple of foam skulls and grey net spooky fabric for $2 each. Then I rounded up some wire hangers and we made our own hanging ghouls.

 

 

A few went by the front door to scare the little trick-or-treaters which is what my son loves to do.

 

 

This is another project from a few years ago that I use almost every year. I made witchy bell sleeves from black glittery velvet and cotton gauze.

 

 

The top has an elastic band so they go right over whatever top I'm wearing when I want to witchify my outfit.

 

 

This is how they looked for my Halloween carnival paired up with a chocolate brown bridal skirt I found at the thrift store for $3.

 

 

Since tonight is also a full moon I wanted to give you a peek at one more thing I made for the Halloween carnival.

 

 

I painted and embellished a little paper mache box. Then I made this tag to go along with a treat that's on it's way to someone enchanting out there.

I really miss doing Spooky Mondays with Wendy's Adventures in Wonderland. I had a lot of fun doing them one year (or was it two?) and I miss it this year. So in the spirit of Spooky Mondays I decided to do this post.

 

I love silhouettes. I like to use them in my art and definitely love them for Halloween. I have a set of owls, bats, crows, cats and a picket fence I cut out of black foam years ago that I still use every year.

 

I just came across a book by Jeffery Rudell posted on MAKE. A few years ago he transformed a client's home into a haunted house using spooky paper silhouettes.

 

 

I wish my house had the same amount of windows as this house does.

Actually I would love to have the house period.

 

But I think I can do something with the windows I have.

I love this one with the headless lady and her chair and tiny bird.

 

How about this creepy butcher's window?

I think I'll skip the hanging body parts but I love the kitties.

the bewitching home

It's The Bewitching Home blog party hosted by The Witch of Howling Creek! Thank you to Tenae for creating this fun event.

 

 

I have always loved stories about witches. Both on books and film. It started with Sabrina and Samantha and later the Owens family and the Halliwell sisters.

 

 

One thing that I've never outgrown is my obsession with witches' houses. Or at least the ones portrayed in movies and tv.

 

 

Film witches almost always live in Victorians. Samantha from Bewitched might be the one exception. Something about old Victorians lends itself perfectly to that bohemian witchy style.

 

 

Even Nicole Kidman's sweet little cottage in the movie Bewitched had a very feminine gypsy boho vibe. I guess the rule is witches like romantic and vampires prefer modern.

 

 

I'm really late decorating for Halloween this year. I got super busy with my bloggy stuff and it has been unseasonably warm until this week. Now it finally feels like Fall.

 

 

Each year I tell myself I'm going to try a whole new look. Maybe go more minimal and not put out so much stuff. But once I get all my favorite Halloween goodies out I always end up with the same witchy shabby cottage look I love.

 

 

I took the shades off my chandelier for the summer then popped them back on for fall. The crows decided they prefer the shades there too.

My carnival witch will hang near the front door again like this.

 

 

I usually look forward to all the Halloween magazine issues and September and October are the only months when I buy several different ones. I didn't buy one single one this year.

 

 

None of them were very exciting. The last Martha Stewart one I got is this one from 2010. This year she just re-issued the same one from 2011 and I wasn't too excited about that one either.

 

 

Even my Luna isn't too thrilled with this year's offerings.

 

At least Martha still has great recipes on her site. Here is one for a Spooky Halloween Spirit.

 

 

Ghost in the Graveyard

Serves 1
2 ounces black vodka
2 ounces creme de cacao or coffee-flavored liqueur
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Pinch of finely grated nutmeg, for garnish

In a glass, combine vodka and creme de cacao, and set aside. Place a scoop of ice cream in a highball glass, and slowly pour vodka mixture over ice cream. Garnish with nutmeg; serve immediately.

 

How about pairing that with these lovely dark treats.

 

 

Or this for something more blood curdling.

 

 

Blood Orange Cocktail

 

1 1/2 cups fresh blood-orange juice (from 7 to 8 blood oranges) chilled

6 tablespoons Solerno or other blood-orange liqueur

Combine blood-orange juice and liqueur in a large pitcher. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Pour into test tubes or small glasses.
