spooky mondays is back

I'm so glad my friend Wendy from Wendy's Adventures in Wonderland brought back Spooky Mondays. I had lots of fun doing it last year and today she is kicking off the first one for this year.

I decided to share a little bit of haunted history from my hometown, California's capital city of Sacramento. Lots of ghostly stories from the Gold Rush days abound here and this time of the year there are many places to enjoy a little bit of spooky fun.

One of my favorite buildings is our Governor's Mansion, a white Italianate Victorian built in 1877. It's now a part of the California State Historic Parks group and is open for tours. I went there one year for a Halloween tour on the night of a full moon. My son really enjoyed going through the house which was decorated for Halloween. We met several 'ghosts' and learned about the mansion's haunted past.

If you're interested in hearing about a paranormal investigation conducted at the Governor's Mansion by one of our local ghost hunting groups you can read about it here.

In honor of Spooky Mondays I also whipped up a digi collage inspired by our famous haunted house.

Make sure to visit Wendy's Adventures in Wonderland for more spooky fun.

Happy First Spooky Mondays!

Dearest Anna,
I am soooo excited that you are joining me again for Spooky Mondays. You know I have a feeling that from now on, it just would not feel like Halloween without your Practical Magic party and visiting all your spooky post for the season. I get all goose bumpy every time I visit.
I love the old house. It would be so awesome to visit at midnight and see if the walls talk or the creaky floorboards whisper haunting tales. We have a Mansion called Moody Mansion in Galveston, and It was from the same period. Very spooky as well and supposedly haunted as so many places in Galveston are due to the Great Storm of 1900, they say you can still hear the children laughing on some of the streets at night. I will have to post about it and let you know more. You would like it.
I hope your son is doing wonderful and you two are doing lots of Ghost Hunting for the Season.

I'm having house lust. That is an awesome house. My BFF lives in Sacramento. On one trip to see her we toured the capital, took a river boat ride and did a drive by of the governor's mansion. I'm going to put a tour of the mansion on my to-do list for the next visit to Sacramento.
Always,
Queenie

I have fond memories of this mansion. I came too late for the regular tour, but got a private tour since the guide and I had such a great chat about George McGovern whom I had previously met at the American Institute in Munich, Germany. :) I guess the guide jumped on the occasion to talk about this man -- especially with someone from another country.

I wish I could do the Halloween tour one fine day...
